Global Movement Against Hunger and Poverty

First initiated by World Vision Canada in 1971, 30-Hour Famine is now being organized in one form or another by World Vision offices in more than 15 countries as a global movement against hunger and poverty.

In Malaysia, the 30-Hour Famine was first introduced as a joint effort between World Vision Malaysia and Sin Chew Daily to raise funds for North Korea’s nationwide famine during winter of 1997. Every year since 1997, thousands of young Malaysians come together to take a stand against hunger and poverty by raising funds for projects combating hunger and poverty through different formats of the 30-Hour Famine. In 2015, caring Malaysians raised RM2.2 million for projects of combating hunger and poverty.

This year, the 30-Hour Famine will be spotlighting the importance of Education in overcoming hunger and poverty. The target is RM3.3 million raised and 35,000 participants.

Where do the funds go from 30-Hour Famine

Funds raised during this fundraising camps will support World Vision programmes in tackling poverty in a few countries by improving access to healthy food, clean water and better sanitation. This will help hungry children and families in Philippines, India, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailan, Mongolia and also Malaysia.

In Malaysia, funds raised will be used to:

  • Empower the disabled community to grow their income by providing necessary training and education
  • Support refugee community by building holistic learning environments through education projects and mentor programmes
  • Provide underprivileged children with access to quality education by covering school fees, transportation costs, books and stationery
  • Build a sustainable community hostel for school-going girls in Tulid, Sabah.

This event ties with Tedboy’s believe that a piece of bread can be so much more than just a piece of bread. HUNGER MUST GO.

Tedboy team hopes for the world to be generous and kind to those in need, and to have gratefulness in all that we have because others may not have enough.
